Slaughterman

In 2001, the British countryside was stripped of its livestock whilst thousands of corpses piled up in farm yards.  Many of these animals had been slaughtered by Gordon Nixon.

Having worked in an abattoir for most of his life, Gordon took on the task of culling and burying over 45,000 animals during the Foot and Mouth disease crisis.  From witnessing farmers being stripped of their livelihoods, to finding lambs still breathing amongst 200 carcases, The Slaughterman follows Gordon back to these sites and recounts his experiences of the outbreak.

An exploration of the human cost of Foot and Mouth disease and how 6 years later, Gordon is still battling with Post Traumatic Stress.
